Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline including angels, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
The latest chapter concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the first table of characters who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, distinct from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (played by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
Dividing the Cast
Given 13 cast members, it was obvious from the start that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
Hence, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.
What Defines the Combat Party
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the developments of the latest installment show why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
First, the group has a clear idea where to proceed after a intense first encounter with the antagonists.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise started the narrative’s action—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.
The antagonist then paid off his liabilities and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, north of the urban center, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each character has a specific drive to leave the city the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, desires vengeance.
- The adventurer knows the region and warns that it is a dangerous location.
- Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate the target and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- But, their position as important members in the powerful family could help the team access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, Teor pledged a life debt to The cleric for his rescue and will now go with him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The cleric turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- Teor is marked for death by the clan.
This means them no alternative but to journey toward the remote area in search of Casimir.
Upcoming Developments
Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table will be absent the following episode, leaving the rest of the players to round up the Explorers and Schemers groups.
Fans can anticipate discovering which characters will be in which group in the season’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
